IRON NEST Map Guide: Get Range and Bearing Before You Calculate
A perfect loading sequence cannot rescue a bad target measurement. Slow down at the tactical map: translate the order into a location, keep reference points separate, and only pass range and bearing to the calculator after the plotted target makes sense.
PRE-FIRE CHECK
Before you start
- Separate facts from assumptions in the mission order.
- Plot the known reference points before the target.
- Use the red tool for the final range-and-bearing measurement.
- Clear obsolete marks before starting the next mission.
From message to target mark
The map stage solves location. Do not start thinking about powder charges while the target is still ambiguous.
- Copy the order details that identify known places, directions, or distances.
- Find and mark each known reference on the tactical map.
- Use the provided geometry to narrow the target position; when two clues are available, their intersection is the candidate target.
- Check that the result is consistent with the original wording before measuring from the IRON NEST position.
Pass clean range and bearing downstream
The Steam operator guide snippet confirms that the red pencil provides both bearing and range and copies the result to the clipboard.
- Use temporary marks while solving so they are not confused with the final line.
- Draw the final red measurement from the platform position to the confirmed target.
- Verify the copied range and bearing once before leaving the map.
- Remove or reset stale target marks after the fire mission is complete.
Operator noteMission-specific coordinates are deliberately excluded. A reusable method is safer than an answer that may belong to another version or scenario.
