IRON NEST Shell Types: Choose by Target, Not by Habit

The release game contains more ammunition than the early public guides can safely summarize. Treat shell choice as a mission decision: identify the target and required effect, read the current in-game description, then enter that exact choice in the calculator.

Before you start

  • Read the requested target effect before selecting ammunition.
  • Use the release-build shell description as the authority.
  • Enter the same shell in the calculator that you will load.
  • Do not reuse demo-era damage or penetration numbers.

Common public-guide examples

These roles appear in the current public walkthrough material. They are orientation points, not a complete release-build table.

  1. High Explosive (HE): a common example for exposed or area targets; verify mission constraints before use.
  2. Armor Piercing (AP): the beginner walkthrough shows it in an underground-target example.
  3. Star / illumination shell: used when the mission calls for battlefield illumination rather than direct destructive effect.
  4. Other shell variants: read their current in-game description and mission wording; do not infer their effect from color or name alone.

A four-question shell check

Ask these questions before the calculator stage so the computed solution matches the round that reaches the loading platform.

  1. What exact target or location is the order describing?
  2. Does the mission request destruction, penetration, illumination, or another effect?
  3. Does the current in-game shell description match that effect?
  4. Is the selected calculator setting identical to the physical shell you will load?
